Passport checks held in Grozny

As reported by locals, in Grozny, power agents carried out the so-called "passport checks" on the eve of the Victory Day celebrations.

"On May 6, in the afternoon, we were checked. Armed policemen inspected house by house and asked about any unregistered and permanently living persons there. They didn't inspect the houses, just talked to owners and went on," Ramzan, a resident of one of the settlements of Grozny, asserts.

"The checks were conducted by local policemen; they just came to the household and asked whether all who were there were registered at that address, and whether there were no strangers. They behaved politely and correctly. When asked about the reasons for checks, one of the officers said that they had strengthening on the eve of May 9, and performed the order of their bosses," said Khasan, a resident of the Staropromyslovskiy District.

In the context of the mass events on May 9 and 10 on the occasion of the Victory Day and the Day of Memory and Grief for Republic's Nations, law enforcement bodies of Chechnya were put under the stronger mode of service, a source from the republic's power bodies, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He ruled out any chance for militants to commit any major subversive and terror acts on May 9 and 10.
