Retired sergeant from Nalchik convicted for involvement with militants

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court has sentenced Aslan Mambetov, a former serviceman, to six years in prison for his involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF).

Mambetov took his service in Military Unit No. 3723 and, according to investigators, from the autumn of 2011 to September 17, 2014, in the territory of the Chegem, Zolsk and Baksan Districts of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) performed instructions of the leaders of the illegal armed formation "United Vilayat of Kabarda, Balkaria and Karachay", a subdivision of the "Imarat Kavkaz", which is recognized as a terrorist organization.

The defendant was found guilty of participating in an IAF, which is not allowed by the federal law, illegal acquisition and possession of weapons and ammunition, and storage of drugs. The court sentenced him to imprisonment for six years in a general-security colony, the "Interfax" reports, referring to the Military Investigating Department for the Southern Military District of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation ICRF in.
