NKR's Ombudsman treats Bagdasaryan's case as fabricated
The case against a Karabakh soldier Arsen Bagdasaryan was fabricated in revenge for the trial of two Azerbaijani subversives, said Yuri Airapetyan, the Ombudsman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 27, 2014, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported about the capture of Bagdasaryan as a prisoner of war. He was charged with an attempted murder, sabotage and participation in a criminal organization. Bagdasaryan admitted his guilt and asked for a minimum sentence. On May 5, the Ganja Court of Grave Crimes sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
Airapetyan has emphasized that, in his opinion, the case was fabricated by the Azerbaijani party as retaliation for the trial of two Azerbaijani soldiers, tried in the NKR as saboteurs, the IA "News.am" reports.
The Ombudsman has noted that he will do everything possible to draw attention of the international public to the fate of Bagdasaryan.
Also, Yuri Airapetyan insists that Bagdasaryan's case is a serious violation of the international humanitarian law – according to his version, for six weeks after Bagdasaryan's detention, officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) could not visit him.
