The leaders of the opposition political parties of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), participating in the elections to the National Assembly are optimistic about the future voting and expect to impose the struggle to the so-called "big parliamentary troika".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the parliamentary elections in the NKR are scheduled for May 3. All the three political forces represented in the NKR's National Assembly, including the "Free Homeland", the "Dashnaktsutyun", and the "Democratic Party of Artsakh", have announced their participation in the forthcoming elections. Later, the four oppositional parties, namely, the "National Renaissance", "Movement-88", "Peace and Development", and the Communist Party, have reported their decision to participate in the elections.

According to Varuzhan Gabrielyan, the chief of headquarters of the opposition "Peace and Development" Party, the main intrigue is that "whether the elections will be free and competitive as it was stated by the authorities."

Varuzhan Gabrielyan believes that "for our country, which is seeking international recognition, the current elections are of great importance, since it is the first time elections of a professional parliament." Therefore, according to Varuzhan Gabrielyan, the main mission of the "Peace and Development" Party in the Parliament is in the activities aimed at establishing public control over the work of the Parliament.
