Advocates claim violation of Shamil Musaev's rights in Chechnya

In Chechnya, investigators violated the rights of Shamil Musaev, an advocate of the Advocates' Bar "Nizam", accused of large-scale fraud. This was reported by his defenders.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 9, the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) instituted a criminal case against advocate Shamil Musaev under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed on a large scale, note of the "Caucasian Knot"). The defence of Shamil Musaev associates his prosecution with his legal dispute in relation to the federal agencies.

On April 14, the Staropromyslovsky District Court announced pre-trial restriction measure against Shamil Musaev in the form of detention in custody for a period of two months.

According to Shamil Musaev's advocates, their client is also being prosecuted in the case of falsification of evidence. Advocate Said-Magomed Chapanov believes the new criminal case was opened to take Shamil Musaev in custody by the court.

According to Adam Abubakarov, the Vice-President of the Advocates' Chamber of Chechnya, the materials of the new case were arranged with violation of the applicable law.

Adam Abubakarov has explained that Shamil Musaev is charged for the fact that he had allegedly corrected the grounds for refusal to institute criminal proceedings on episodes of murders of Chechen residents committed by soldiers. After consideration of the criminal cases, relatives of the killed Chechen residents could claim for compensation.
