Makhachkala centre faces large concentration of law enforcers

In Makhachkala, according to local residents, starting from the early Friday morning, the city centre faces a large number of policemen. A source in the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has explained such an enhancement of police forces by the possible arrival in Makhachkala of Sergey Melikov, the Russian President's Envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).

According to Amina A., a resident of Makhachkala, during April 9, in the Soviet and Kirov Districts of Makhachkala, law enforcers inspected passports of local residents and visited chosen houses for inspections. The local woman has added that she is not aware of any detentions.

Timur Akhmedov, another resident of Makhachkala, has suggested that the today's concentration of policemen is most likely connected with Friday prayer, which will be held in all major mosques of the city.

A source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in the Dagestani MIA has reported that the police enhancement is connected with the possible arrival in Makhachkala of Sergey Melikov, the Russian President's Envoy to the NCFD, who yesterday arrived in Dagestan.

Let us remind you that on April 9, in Derbent, Sergey Melikov inspected the preparations for the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the city.
