Suspected participants in hostilities abroad detained in Azerbaijan

During the counterterrorist operation, staff members of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan detained seven citizens of the republic, suspected of involvement in hostilities as members of terrorist groupings of "Taliban" and "Islamic State".

According to the MNS, the detainees are Aidyn Garagezov, Khafiz Ramizzade, Telman Bekirov, Mubariz Tairov, Djavid Gasimov, Fazail Velizade, and Tural Mamedov, citizens of Azerbaijan, the "Interfax-Azerbaijan" reports.

The law enforcement agencies believe that, Khafiz Ramizzade (in 2007-2012) and Aidyn Garagezov (in 2011-2013) were active members of armed grouping "Tayfatul Mansour", which acted in the Pakistan Region of Waziristan and subordinated to illegal armed formation (IAF) "Tahriki Taliban", the newspaper reports.

Other five detainees are suspected that in 2014-2015, they were involved in the activities of various illegal armed formations, including the terrorist organization "Islamic State" in the territories of Syria and Iraq, the "1news.az" reports with reference to Arif Babaev, the head of the Centre for Public Relations of the MNS.

In case if their guilt is proved, they can be sentenced to various imprisonment terms, from 20 years to life imprisonment, the "Trend" reports.
