During the week from March 30 to April 5, at least one person perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
In the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, during the week from March 30 to April 5, 2015, at least one person was lost; and no information about injuries was reported. These are the results of calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The casualty is a suspected participant of the armed underground in Dagestan.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On March 30, residents of the settlement of Vremenny in the Untsukul District of Dagestan reported that they were watching an accumulation of military equipment within a kilometre from the village of Gimry, and that Vremenny and the nearby forest were surrounded by militaries. On April 2, the Untsukul and Gergebil Districts of Dagestan were put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. On the same day, part of the military equipment departed from the vicinity of Gimry towards the Gergebil District. On April 4, power agents conducted house-by-house inspections in the villages of Maydanskoe, Balakhani and Zirani of the Untsukul District, during which they checked documents of local residents.
On March 31, law enforcers blocked a five-storey building in Datuev Street in Khasavyurt, in one of the apartments of which members of the armed underground were hiding. As reported by power agents, the apartment belonged to Shakhban Gasanov, the leader of the "Kizlyar" militant grouping. During the negotiations, a woman came out of the house. The remaining blocked persons refused to surrender and opened fire. During the storming of the house, the above Gasanov, who had earlier sworn to the so-called "Islamic State", recognized as a terrorist organization, was killed. According to preliminary information, Gasanov was involved in shelling policemen on March 25 in Khasavyurt. Then one of the attackers was killed on the spot; and the other one died of gunshot wounds in hospital.
Bombings and terror acts
On April 2, in the car park in Guliev Street in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, an explosive device went off. None of passers-by was injured.
Attacks on civilians
On April 3 in the village of Untsukul, Untsukul District of Dagestan, unidentified persons shelled an armoured Toyota car with a local MP Gasan Gasanov and several other persons inside. Thanks to the armoured protection of the car, no one was hurt in the attack.
