US impose sanctions against leader of "Imarat Kavkaz"

The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against Dagestani native Aliaskhab Kebekov (Ali Abu-Muhammad), the leader of the terrorist organization "Imarat Kavkaz".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, 2014, the websites associated with the armed underground disseminated the information that by the decision of amirs of vilayets of the "Imarat Kavkaz", Ali Abu-Muhammad was elected the new head of the organization. On the same day, the commanders of the "Imarat Kavkaz" officially announced the death of its previous leader Dokku Umarov.

Aliaskhab Kebekov is put on the US sanctions lists in the category of "fighting terrorism", the "TASS" reports.

The sanctions involve blocking accounts and assets owned by Aliaskhab Kebekov. Besides, US citizens and companies are forbidden to conduct business with him, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Let us remind you that in summer of 2014, Aliaskhab Kebekov urged militants to abandon suicide bombing and terror act against civilians.

In April 2012, he was put on the wanted list on charges of organizing or participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF).
