Makhachkala suburbanites report mass detentions of mosque-goers
In the village of Leninkent on the outskirts of the capital of Dagestan, mass detentions of mosque-goers took place. According to eyewitnesses, all the detainees were released.
On March 13, after Friday prayer, 18-25 mosque-goers were brought to the Kirov ROVD (District Interior Division) in Makhachkala from one of the Leninkent mosques. In the evening of the same day, they were released. This was told on March 16 to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a resident of the village who preferred to remain anonymous.
"All the detainees went to the quarter mosque. Policemen detained everyone who came across their way, without any distinction. They detained even those people who presented their IDs. Then, the detainees were brought to the Kirov ROVD, where all of them were inspected in accordance with the standard procedure: they were added to the lists, their IDs were checked, and they were fingerprinted," the Leninkent resident has said.
According to the villager, periodic detentions of Muslims of the quarter mosque began in 2013.
Officials from the Kirov ROVD of Makhachkala did not confirm to the "Caucasian Knot" the information on transportation of Leninkent residents to their place.
