Azerbaijani court rules to arrest suspected recruiters of militants
The Narimanov District Court of Baku has ruled to arrest for two months four Azerbaijani citizens suspected of recruiting people to war in Syria. They were charged not of recruiting mercenaries, but of illegal possession of weapons, said their advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 11 Azerbaijani law enforcers reported an arrest of Zyulfugar Ibragimov, Mubariz Mirzoev, Shamseddin Abdullazadeh and Vyugar Aliev on suspicion of recruiting citizens to war in Syria.
According to Akif Nagi, the Chairman of the Karabakh Liberation Association (KLA), two of the detainees, Ibragimov and Aliev, are members of the KLA.
Akif Nagi does not believe in the official version of the Prosecutor's Office, according to which the detainees are alleged recruiters of local residents to war in Syria. According to his version, they were detained under the false denunciation of the bosses of the Ter-Ter District, who intend to capture the guys' business."
Azerbaijani youth "are very easily influenced by those, who conduct active promotion of religious intolerance," said Uzeir Djafarov, a military analyst.
In his turn, Elkhan Shahinoglu, a political scientist, has noted an "active advocacy policy conducted by Islamic radicals."
