Secretary of Russian Security Council states threat of militants' return from Middle East
Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, has expressed a requirement to take special control over the return of militants from the Middle East.
According to his story, the participation of mercenaries of Russian origin "in the ranks of terrorist groupings abroad poses a serious threat, if they return to their homeland."
According to Patrushev, quite often the reaction of local authorities and law enforcers "to facts of extremist manifestations is rather belated and sluggish." According to the Chief Department for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) of the Russian MIA, in 2014, 93 extremist crimes were registered in the territory of the NCFD.
In 2014, a total of 525 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in the NCFD; of them 341 people perished, and 184 others were wounded. During the year, the total number of victims went down by 46.9%.
The experts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", have noted that so far they saw no indications of any tightening of the tactics of North-Caucasian militants, and that it was unlikely that militants would borrow the tactics of the "Islamic State".
