HRC "Memorial" to appeal against court ruling on lawsuit against Russia's MoJ

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has decided to appeal against the ruling of the Tver District Court of Moscow, which refused to satisfy the HRC's lawsuit against the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Tver District Court of Moscow had rejected the claim of the HRC "Memorial", which demanded to nullify the placement of the HRC into the registry of foreign agents.

According to Kirill Koroteev, the lawyer of the HRC "Memorial", the decision on the legality of the check conducted by the prosecutor's office should also be revised, according to the verdict of the Constitutional Court of Russia, which had invalidated the mechanism of checks of non-profit organizations (NPOs) by the prosecutor's office.

In his words, the application about the revision of the check decision should be considered before May 17 of this year.

The HRC "Memorial" was placed into the registry of foreign agents after the first decision of Moscow City Court (MCC) at the request of the prosecutor's office, even when the decision had not entered into force yet, said Koroteev.

"In the course of the supervisory check, violations were found in the activities of the HRC; a warning was made and an instruction to eliminate the violations. The HRC has failed to do it and present the respective documents," Elena Sobko, the spokesperson of the MoJ, has presented her viewpoint.
