On March 2-8, at least one person was lost in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from March 2 to March 8, 2015, at least one person was killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus; there were no reports about any wounded persons. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The casualty is an alleged member of the armed underground in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On March 2, in the vicinity of the village of Khamamatyurt of the Babayurt District of Dagestan, an unidentified person shelled a police outfit and was shot dead by response fire; nobody from among policemen was hurt. According to the police, a pistol was found on the casualty; and in the course of subsequent search, they found a VAZ-21010 car near the place of the incident. The attacker was identified as a 42-year-old Eldar Khaidarbekov, a native of the Khasavyurt District.

Detentions

On March 2, in the settlement of Voikovo in Grozny, as reported by law enforcement officials, Zelimkhan Magomadov, the so-called "Amir of the plain part of Chechnya", who was carrying a firearm and an explosive device, was blocked. Negotiations with him by telephone were held by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. He managed to convince him to surrender.

On March 3, residents of the settlement of Semender, Kirov District of Makhachkala, reported the detention of up to 30 practicing Muslims, including minors. On the same day, after checking their passports, all the detainees were released.

On March 3, near the "Dynamo" Stadium in Makhachkala, according to relatives, a local resident Artyom Alkhasov, a son of Gadjikurban Alkhasov, an editor of the State TV and Radio Company (STRC) "Dagestan", was kidnapped. Right in the street, a car drove up to him; three unidentified men jumped out of the car, grasped Artyom and drove away to some unknown place. His relatives filed an application to the police department. On March 4, the advocate, who represented the interests of Artyom Alkhasov, said that his client was detained and kept in the Sovietskiy ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala. The house of his parents was searched; and nothing illegal was found.

On March 4, in the settlement of Selmentauzen in the Vedeno District of Chechnya, law enforcers detained a local resident suspected of aiding members of illegal armed formations (IAFs). According to the police, during the interrogation the detainee confessed that in spring 2012 he helped one of the active members of the armed underground, who was then on the federal wanted list, by supplying foodstuffs to him.
