About 10,000 citizens apply to migration service for official status in Volgograd Region
The total number of citizens of Ukraine staying now in the Volgograd Region is not more than 20,000; of them about a half has have applied for legal status in the territory Russia. Despite the escalation of conflict in Donbas in late 2014, in early 2015, there was no mass inflow of citizens from Ukraine, said the local department of the Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 1, 2014, the state of emergency was introduced in the Volgograd Region, because of the influx of people from Ukraine. On 24 December, it became known that the state of emergency was lifted.
In 2014, the Volgograd Region received about 18,000 citizens of Ukraine, which makes 20 percent of the total number of migrants, registered in the region, Kirill Adzinov, the head of the Russian FMS for the Volgograd Region, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"No mass inflow of Ukrainian citizens was registered in January-February 2015; and the total number of the refugees does not exceed 20,000," he said, adding that in 2014, 5600 citizens of Ukraine were granted temporary shelter. This year 696 people have applied for asylum. In general, as he said, more than 10,000 citizens of Ukraine applied to the FMS for the Volgograd Region for legal status in the territory of Russia.
