Court removes reporters from trial on KBR resident killed in CTO
The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) continued hearings on the case of a local resident, who was killed in a counterterrorist operation (CTO) in April 2013. At the request of the suffered party – employees of the Centre to Combat Extremism (CCE) – the session was held behind closed doors, reporters were removed from the courtroom.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alexei Makoev, a resident of the city of Chegem in the KBR, was killed on April 30, 2013, on the road near the village of Khasanya. According to the ID for the republic of the ICRF, law enforcers tried to stop the car driven by him for examination, but he opened fire on them. His relatives disagreed with the accusation and demanded a trial.
The hearing of the case began on November 3. The previous session questioned two employees of the fast response unit, who said that CCE agents had received information that a meeting of members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) had been scheduled on the road between the villages of Gerpegezh and Khasanya, and made an ambush there. Initially, they demanded from the people inside the car to get out with their hands up, but the driver opened fire and they had to open the return one, said the witnesses.
