Over 300 turkologists come to Moscow conference on history of Karachay-Balkar people

The history and culture of the Karachay-Balkar people are the topics of the conference in Moscow, which is attended by more than 300 Turkic scientists from 16 countries.

According to organizers, a similar scientific session on the history and culture of the Karachay-Balkar people was last held 55 years ago.

The history of Karachay-Balkar people has plenty of "white spots" that need special study, Rustam Begeulov, Doctor of History, Professor at the Karachay-Cherkessian State University (KChSU), said addressing the conference. He noted that to fill in the gaps "we need a systematic search and identification of written sources and documents," including "in the neighbouring countries having their long written tradition."

The event is supported by the interregional Karachay-Balkar public organization for promoting the conservation and development of Karachay-Balkar traditions named "Bars El" and takes place within the premises of the Russian Academy of Sciences on November 24-28.
