Bamut villager detained on suspicion of aiding militants in Chechnya
In the Lenin District of Grozny, policemen detained a 30-year-old native of the village of Bamut of the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya on suspicion of aiding and abetting an illegal armed formation (IAF). This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
The police state that during the period from 2007 to 2009, the detainee aided Azamat Makhauri, an active member of the armed underground.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azamat Makhauri was treated as a leader of one of the illegal armed formations operating in the territory of Chechnya. In July 2009, he was killed in a special operation in the village of Bamut.
