76 participants from Caucasian regions attend Yerevan conference "Caucasus is our common home"

The conference "Caucasus is our common home" held in Yerevan gathered 76 persons from all regions of Caucasus. Only the delegation from Azerbaijan failed to come to Armenia, and they took part in the event online.

The conference provides a platform for government and international organizations to discuss politics and a platform for NGOs. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from Gyulnara Shaginyan, an organizer of the event, the Board member of the NGO "Democracy Today" and the UN Special Rapporteur on Slavery.

Participants of the conference discuss issues related to peace-keeping, security, the role of women in those spheres, the situation in the army and at the borders and how the situation affects women. The participants of the conference also discuss the gender programme developed by the Government of Armenia. In this regard, officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the OSCE, and the British Embassy were invited to take part in the conference.

The conference drew special attention to the theme: "Role of religion in support of women and incipient fundamentalism". Representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church and religious representatives of other countries were invited for discussion.
