Georgia: about 1500 persons take part in action "We Choose Europe"

The action-concert "We Choose Europe" was held in Tbilisi on April 13 in Europe Square, in the old town. It was attended by about 1500 people, both ordinary citizens and NGO activists and politicians. They expressed Georgia's desire to join the European Union and to be a European nation.

The event was organized by the National Platform of Georgia – Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership, which comprises 115 NGOs. The audience was addressed by Philip Dimitrov, the EU Ambassador to Georgia.

"In a few months, I'm sure, you will sign an agreement with the EU, on the basis of which you will have free movement of your goods, services and capitals. Very soon after that, you'll get the fourth freedom – the freedom of people's movement," said the Ambassador.

"I came here today from another action called 'No to Collaborators!' Europe means civilization and protection of rights. With the Putin's Russia we can't feel good, if we want to say 'Yes; to Europe – these are mutually exclusive notions," said Nino Shavrvashidze, a participant of the action.

According to Salome Bakashvili, another participant, it is important that citizens come, without any political pressure, and make it clear that Europe is a deliberate choice of the people.
