Trial on murder of journalist Akhmedilov starts in Makhachkala

The Makhachkala Lenin District Court has held its first session of the trial on the murder of journalist Abdulmalik Akhmedilov. The defendant Murad Shuaibov has filed a motion asking to return his the criminal case to the prosecutor's office in order to add a number of documents to the case files – these documents had been earlier there, but were withdrawn later, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Abdulmalik Akhmedilov, the executive secretary of the "Istina" (Truth) newspaper and editor-in-chief of the "Sogratl" newspaper, was killed in his car outside his house in August 2009. According to investigators, the crime was committed by Murad Shuaibov and Isa Abdurakhmanov.

Shuaibov indicates in his motion that his application to the investigator who ran his criminal case was not added to the case files. According to his story, he named in that application the persons who had committed the murder of journalist Khadjimurad Kamalov, of which Shuaibov was also accused.

Let us remind you that Khadjimurad Kamalov, the founder of the weekly "Chernovik", was killed on December 15, 2011, in Makhachkala. In November 2013, due to the fact that investigators could not prove Shuaibov's involvement in Kamalov's murder, the charges against him were dropped.

In his second withdraw application, according to Murad Shuaibov, he pointed out that he had been brutally and repeatedly tortured and forced to confess of killing Akhmedilov and Kamalov.
