FSB head: Doku Umarov was killed in the end of 2013
The operation to "neutralize" Doku Umarov was conducted in late 2013, said Alexander Bortnikov, the head of the FSB.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 8 Bortnikov stated that "as a result of the conducted operative-combat actions, the leader of the 'Imarat Kavkaz' Doku Umarov was neutralized."
According to the head of the Russia's FSB, the initial information about Umarov's "neutralization" penetrated into the press from "other sources". Special services did not report their special operation, pursuing "certain operative and political objectives," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Bortnikov as saying.
North-Caucasian militants made a preliminary confirmation of Umarov's death back on January 16, and the final one – on March 18. Abu Mukhammad (Aliaskhab Kebekov) is the new leader of "Imarat Kavkaz".
