Suspect of false terror act report detained in Volgograd Region

As reported on February 1 by the press service of the Chief Department for the Region of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), a suspect of making a false telephone call about a terror act has been detained in the Volgograd Region.

A man in the condition of alcohol intoxication made a call from a flat in the town of Kamyshin and "informed about a prepared explosion in Volgograd," said a MIA source, adding that this was his attempt to play a joke.

The state of alert was announced for the police unit and the whole police personnel of Volgograd and Kamyshin; they were switched into the strengthened mode of service.

"In a few hours the identity and location of the caller were installed," said the source, adding that the suspect was detained.

Now, a check is underway, and the issue of opening a criminal case under Article 207 of the Russian Criminal Code (false report about a terror act) is discussed.

Should the guilt of the detainee be proved, he is under threat of up to three years in prison and a huge fine, says the official website of the above Chief Department of the MIA for the Volgograd Region.
