Askarbiy Kardanov: catering of Muslim athletes at Olympic Games will meet Islamic traditions
At the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, catering of Muslim athletes will be organized with all the religious requirements. This was stated by Askarbiy Kardanov, the head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the Republic of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory. Two imams will work at every prayer room in the Olympic village.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the Olympic Games in Sochi, sportsmen professing Islam will be able to perform their religious duties in prayer rooms specially constructed in each of the three Olympic villages. Meanwhile, each Olympic village will have two Muslim rooms: one for men and one for women.
Answering the question of the "Caucasian Knot" about the attitude of Muslims in the region to the Olympics in Sochi in the context of the "Circassian issue", Mufti Askarbiy Kardanov has said that "nobody forbids people to remember the past; however, we need to move forward with the times."
As for the background of protest emanating from the international Circassian movement, it is generated outside the country. This was told by Islamic scholar Alexei Malashenko, a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
