Action to stop violence against women held in Yerevan

Today, Yerevan has launched a 16-day-long campaign to end violence against women. About 30 people gathered in the Students Park and marched along the main streets of the capital, urging citizens to pay attention to the acute, in their opinion, problem of the Armenian society.

According to organizers, the main demand is to adopt the Law "On Domestic Violence" – the bill was rejected by the Armenian government.

The action involves the organizations - members of the coalition " Violence Against Women " that includes seven NGOs: "Centre of Women's Rights", "Women's Resource Centre", Centre "Pink Armenia", Centre for Helping Women, Crisis Centre for Sexual Violence, and Public Organization "Zangakatun".

During 16 days of the action, they plan to hold a number of events, including the "White Ribbon" action, during which white ribbons and booklets on preventing violence against women will be handed out to passersby, Susanna Vardanyan, Director of the "Centre of Women's Rights", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
