Grozny: local convicted for aiding militant

In Chechnya, Uvais Shidaev, 23, a resident of Grozny, was sentenced to three years in prison with a probation period of two years for helping a member of the armed underground, the law enforcement bodies of Chechnya report.

According to investigators, in the period from February to May this year, Uvais Shidaev provided help to the militant Ibragim Genardukaev, who had been on the federal wanted list and who was killed on May 27 during a special operation in Grozny.

"Shidaev provided Genardukaev with his car for transporting weapons and food. Shidaev was detained on August 2 under operative information and confessed of his complicity," said a source from the republic's power agencies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier a resident of the Gudermes District of Chechnya was sentenced to two years in colony-settlement for helping members of the armed underground.
