Builders of Olympic facility in Sochi, who claimed unpaid wages, receive part of their money

Workers from Tajikistan, who built an Olympic facility in Sochi and claimed non-payment of their wages, have received from their employer a portion of their earnings, in total, 2.7 million roubles. The total wage arrears to the workers were 4.8 million roubles.

Let us remind you that in late August, workers from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Russia, engaged in the construction of housing for volunteers of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in the village of Vesyoloe of the Adler District, appealed to the Sochi branch of the network "Migration and Law" with a complaint about non-payment of their wages for three months.

On October 16, Sobirzhon Yunusov, a foreman of the workers from Tajikistan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that an agent of the employer paid portion of wage arrears.

With the help of the network "Migration and Law", the workers have filed a complaint about the issue to the Prosecutor's Office of the Adler District of Sochi and to the Investigating Department of the Adler District of Sochi of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

In case if the Prosecutor's Office and the ICRF do not reveal any violations of the workers' rights and non-payment of their wages, human rights defenders will be prepared and file a claim to the court. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Semyon Simonov, a coordinator of the reception of the network "Migration and Law" of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in the city of Sochi.
