In Volgograd, mothers of children with disabilities again on hunger strike
On September 16, in Volgograd, mothers of children with disabilities once again went on hunger strike, demanding to open a rehabilitation centre. Officials from the regional government assure that the renovation of the building, in which the largest Rehabilitation Centre in the Volgograd Region is expected to be opened, has been already started.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 12, mothers of children with disabilities went on successive hunger strike, and 38 persons participated in it.
However, according to the story of Svetlana Selenok, a participant of the protest action, no response from the authorities has followed. "So, we started the second round of the hunger strike," Svetlana said. And she continued: "However, officials of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare visited all mothers of children with disabilities to learn about our problems and offered to stop the hunger strike."
In total, according to the Svetlana Selenok's information, the hunger strike involves female residents of 10 cities of the Volgograd Region.
"To fulfil our demands, they need to reconsider the budget," Svetlana believes. She continues: "the mothers intend to continue the hunger strike till the authorities draw attention to their problems. We need a normal rehabilitation centre."
