Ex-Deputy Ahmedova in Azerbaijan suspected of swindle and covering up a grave crime

Today the arrest of ex-Deputy of the Parliament Giulyar Ahmedova was officially confirmed by Prosecutor General’s of Azerbaijan. According to the office, Ahmedova is suspected of swindle and covering up a grave crime.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that on September, 25, 2012, a video of negotiation of three persons who discussed a bribe for election to the Parliament was placed on YouTube. On September, 27, 2012, ex-Rector of a private university Elshad Abdullaev declared that the persons on the video posted by him were ex-Deputy of the Parliament Giulyar Ahmedova and her friend Sevindj Babaeva.

On January, 8, Giulyar Ahmedova stepped out of her deputy’s status of her own free will and was passed to supervision of the police. Today, upon a verdict of Sabail district court of Baku, she was taken into custody for a two-months term.

According to the investigation, in autumn of 2005 Ahmedova “gave Abdullaev false promises of election him deputy and by means of swindle misappropriated one million dollars from him”, Press Service of Prosecutor General’s of Azerbaijan reported.

There is also a suspicion that on September, 26, 2012, Ahmedova helped Babaeva to leave for Turkey in spite of being aware of a “criminal case of misappropriation of funds on an especially large scale from Nigam Aliev and others by means of swindle in May of 2007” initiated against her.
