Suspect of committing several terror acts in Russia arrested in Dagestan

The person, detained on June 2 in the city of Derbent, Dagestan, at an attempt to enter Azerbaijan on a false passport, who was accused of committing a series of terror acts in Russia, was arrested, reports the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

Since 2005, the 35-year-old Ilnur Akhmetshin had been on the federal wanted list and was detained on June 2 at a border checkpoint "Yarag-Kazmalyar" in Derbent.

According to investigators, in 2003 Akhmetshin joined, for religious reasons, an illegal armed formation (IAF), whose members committed, in the period from November 8, 2004, to June 28, 2005, 11 explosions of the objects of the fuel and energy complex (oil and gas pipelines, electrical substations and power lines) and attempted explosions.

It is established that Akhmetshin took part in five explosions.

According to investigators, by committing explosions in the areas where Muslims live, the IAF members wanted to provoke power agents' actions against Muslims, cause the latter's aggressive response and destabilize the socio-political situation in the country, says the website of the ICRF.
