In Kalmykia, court obliges hospital to pay compensation of 300,000 roubles to parents of HIV-infected children

The decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of theRepublicofKalmykiaobliged the Republic's Children's Hospital to pay to parents of children, who in 1988 were infected with HIV, 300,000 roubles in compensation for moral damage.

For nearly a quarter of century, the families of children, infected with HIV, in vain demanded that the government should pay compensation for moral damage. On November 9, 2011, the Elista City Court issued the decision to collect from the Republic's Children's Hospital in Kalmykia the funds for compensation for moral damage in the amount of 100,000 roubles to each of seven plaintiffs. Besides, each victim's family demanded to compensate moral damage in the amount of 5 million roubles.

The plaintiffs challenged the decision of the City Court at the Supreme Court of the Republic, and it pronounced the decision in their favour by increasing the amount of compensation up to 300,000 roubles, the STRC (State TV and Radio Company) "Kalmykia" reports.

The Presidium of the Supreme Court dismissed the cassation of the plaintiffs to increase the amount of compensation up to 5 million roubles, the statement on the website of the Supreme Court of Kalmykia reports.
