Not a single candidate nominated by the Communist Party becomes Abkhazia's MP
The first round of parliamentary elections in Abkhazia resulted in the victory of one nominee from the pro-government party "United Abkhazia" and the oppositional "People's Unity Forum of Abkhazia" each, while six oppositional candidates and three from the pro-government party have proceeded into the second round. All the Communist Party's nominees have failed.
Out of the total of 148 candidates, 34 were nominated by political parties – eleven from the "United Abkhazia" and the "People's Unity Forum of Abkhazia" each, and six from the Communist Party and the Party of Economic Development each.
Out of the thirteen people who have won the first round of parliamentary elections in Abkhazia, eleven had been nominated by initiative groups, one – Guram Bargandzhiya – represents the pro-governmental party "United Abkhazia" and the other one – Raul Khadjimba – by the "People's Unity Forum of Abkhazia".
Among the 40 candidates, who have advanced to the second round, there are 9 incumbent MPs.
