Landslide occurs in Baku; residents of two high-rise apartment buildings evacuated
In Azerbaijan, in the Khatain District of Baku, a dangerous situation was caused by a landslide, said the Azerbaijan's Ministry for Emergencies (MfE).
The residents of the two nine-storey buildings, situated between General Shikhlinskiy Street and Gandzha Avenue in Baku, are evacuated, said Shaig Niftiev, the chief engineer of the Expedition of Complex Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
The people living in these buildings are evacuated for a week to other safer places. Once the threat is removed, they will return to their homes, the APA reports.
According to the MfE, the intense changes in the soil occurred in the past three days, "Interfax".
At present, the width of the offset is 150 meters, and its length – 230-250 meters. Over the past two days, the width and length of the cracks has grown; the sedimentation processes became more intense; and the landslide develops more actively.
