Ex-Mayor of Karachaevsk accused of misappropriation of budgetary funds

The Prosecutor's Office of the town of Karachaevsk initiated a criminal case on the fact of misappropriation of budgetary funds against Sapar Laipanov, ex-Mayor of the town, and against Vladimir Solovyov, ex-Deputy Chairman of the City Legislative Assembly.

The prosecutor's inspection revealed that Sapar Laipanov, ex-Mayor of the Karachay Urban District, which included resorts of Teberda and Dombai, and MP Vladimir Solovyov unreasonably exceeded their travel expenses and purchased gifts and souvenirs without documenting the expenditures.

The total sum of budgetary funds overruns amounted to 408,342 roubles, the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic clarifies.

The criminal case against Laipanov and Solovyov was initiated under Part 3 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; this Article stipulates maximum penalty up to three years of imprisonment.
