Five policemen accused of using torture face trial in Volgograd Region

Five law enforcers from the Volgograd Region are accused of inflicting bodily harm to detainees with the aim to obtain their confessions. The case has been forwarded to the court, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office reports.

"The list of the defendants includes the head of the IVS (temporary detention facility) and four employees of the Kotelnikovo ROVD (District Interior Division) of the Volgograd Region. All of them are accused of torturing citizens detained by operative agents," said a source from among the prosecutors.

During 2010 there were several similar episodes. Thus, when demanding from one of the victims to write acknowledgement of guilt after commission of a road accident, operative agents handcuffed and beat him, the "V1.ru" wrote.

"When holding operative-search actions, the defendants were subjected to electric shocks from an autonomous spark discharger, cut hair and applied multiple injuries," said the indictment.
