The first volume of "Memory Book of victims of political repression of Abkhazia" is ready for publishing
The first volume of Memory Book of victims of political repression of Abkhazia out of fifteen is ready for publishing, Yury Lataria, compiler of the book and Deputy Chairman of Association of Memory of victims of political repression of Abkhazia, reported.
"We wish to maintain memory of the victims of political repression and help people recall the history of their families. 1200 names of persons executed by shooting and sentenced to imprisonment and banishment have been included into the first volume. They have been people of different nations and different social statuses whose fates have been ruined by the millstones of repression", Lataria said.
According to the compiler of the book, up to seven thousand people in Abkhazia have undergone repression in the '30s and the '40s of the XX century. Lists of the victims, photos and also the resolution of the Supreme Council of Abkhazian Soviet Socialist Autonomous Republic of rehabilitation with an accusation concerning the "public enemy" together with the witnesses' testimony will be published in the book. However for ethic reasons the accusers' names will not be mentioned in order not to provoke conflicts among Abkhazian families, the compiler explained.
