In Dagestan, head of independent militiamen's union fined for coming to rally

Magomed Shamilov, chairman of the independent trade union of law-enforcement bodies and prosecutors, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the head of the militia of public safety of the Sovietskiy ROVD of Makhachkala had fined him for an administrative offence.

"I came to Lenin Square to meet relatives of the suspects of murdering the head of the MIA of Dagestan Adilgerei Magomedtagirov - Shamsullah Borziev from Rakhat village and Abdulmedzhid Manapov from Botlikh village, the Botlikh District. They had already gathered at the building of the republic's MIA, waiting for latest news. Then, suddenly, law enforcers in masks attacked them and began beating. When I said that such behaviour was inadmissible, they took me to the police station," he said.

Mr Shamilev said that "a protocol of an administrative offence was immediately drawn up; they took away my passport and ordered to come to take it back after I pay a fine of one thousand roubles."

"I made no violation and I'm not going to pay anything; and I'll get back my passport back, when I need it, through the court," the chairman of the independent trade union said.

The protocol says that Shamilev "cried out to address of the government about its inactivity critical statements" (the style and word order of the document are preserved, - comment of the "Caucasian Knot").

Receiving any comments at the on duty unit of the Sovietskiy ROVD was impossible, as militiamen said they had no information.
